Shropshire Heritage

Sat on the edge of the English/Welsh border, one thing we are not short of in Shropshire, is History! We have castles galore, as well as a number of fascinating historic sites to keep you busy:

Clun Castle - Is a smaller free site to visit, and only a stone’s throw from Shropshire Luxury Glamping pods. It’s a small castle ruin, but you can tie in the visit with a walk around the village and take some time to visit the Riverside café.

Stokesay Castle - Run by English Heritage, this castle is more moated manor house than castle. Dating back to 1291, and in brilliant condition, you can learn it’s history through an audio tour.

Ludlow Castle - If you’re planning a visit to Ludlow the castle is located in the heart of the town. You can either choose to pay and explore inside the grounds, or alternatively you can enjoy a walk around the castle walls for free. If you’re visiting us in the summer, the castle hosts a number of events including concerts and outdoor cinema. Past gigs have included Bastille, Scissor Sisters and Faithless.

Croft Castle & Parkland - The castle parklands have a whopping 1500 acres of wood, farm and parkland to explore. It is run by the National Trust and is only a 30-minute drive from the pods.

Attingham Park - This National Trust site has a bit of everything. It has a beautiful country house to explore, walking routes through the deer park, gardens, a café and a great seasonal calendar of activities. If you’re visiting at Christmas, a must-do is to visit the Christmas tree display – pre-booking is essential for this.

Ironbridge - This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site is known internationally as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. It is now run by the National Trust and offers a number of things to do on your visit. The highlight for most is Blists Hill Victorian Town, where you’ll be transported back to the year 1900 and be immersed in Victorian life.

Acton Scott – If you’ve ever wondered what 19th century rural life was like, this is your chance to find out! This heritage farm will transport you back to Victorian life and give you a chance to meet some animal friends too!
